Eyeshadow & Pasta

I love makeup...and I don't mean its a handy tool...I mean I really, really love makeup. If I could play with glitter eyeshadow and lipstick everyday, I would! So, I tried a new eye makeup look today. I used blue smoky shadow with a shimmer on top. The good news is that it looked great. But, the real adventure started when I tried to take my before and after pics. Holy cow...they sucked! Observe my before...
                                                               What am I looking at???

Yeah...I know...this is bad. But, my camera, otherwise known as my phone, doesn't take the best pics. So, along with a new vacuum...I would like a camera for Christmas! Anyway, the makeup was fantastic. I hope to wear it to a Christmas party this Saturday. Well, I might as well show you the after pic...prepare yourself.

Its over there now...

Its hard to see the blue shimmer prettiness...but I assure you, its there. Hopefully, any pictures from the Christmas party turn out better than these. Oh, and a big plus to playing with makeup today...I only did one eye, which is freaking the boys out. Of course, washing it off is now not an option *teehee*

Today, I also made my Mom's pasta. Its so simple, but the boys love it and I wanted a taste of home. I boil regular spaghetti. While doing that, I saute onions and red peppers in a few tablespoons of salted butter and olive oil. Once the onions are transparent I add a teaspoon or so of pesto. Then, when the pasta is done, I add a few cups right into the onions and continue to saute the whole thing for about 5-8 mins. Add salt and pepper to taste (I like it rather salty) and VOILA!! Its sometimes the simple dishes that I like the best.

                                                                  Yummmmmmmy!!

Tomorrow's adventure...apple soap. See you then!

Day 2

Today I have a soap/lip balm/lotion hangover. The ugly side of making your own bath products...smells. Sweet, chemical smells that made my head ache for hours. Martha Stewart doesn't tell you about that.
So, today instead I decided to cook something new. Something golden fried and dripping with oozy cheese was exactly what I needed to cure my Bath & Body Works migraine (oh, and a couple glasses of Killians Red beer aided the process as well).
After deciding on terriyaki cheese burgers and after last nights Asian Fusion love fest on Glee, I remembered a recipe I saw on pinterest.com (go there right after you read this...its amazing) for cheese filled fried egg rolls. Its so simple. You buy string cheese & the large wonton/egg roll sheets, roll them up & fry them in oil. Serve with a marinara dipping sauce...AWESOME!! Oh, and the boys loved them. The only thing I would have changed is I would have lightly sprinkled some salt, garlic, or your favorite seasoning on the cheese before rolling them. Other than that...it was a triumph!
Now, I'm off to cook up some burgers and drink one (three) more Killians.

Christmas Prep

10:00am - I'm making my Christmas gifts this year! Thats adventurous...right?! Originally I had thought to make personalized table linens...but that proved to be waaaay more expensive than I had expected. So...instead...I'm making soap and lip balm *clapping hands* YAAAAAAY!!! Of course, I'm not sure what to do about the men in my family, but I can't think about that right now I'll think about that tomorrow (love you, Scarlett!)
So far, the day has gone well. The boys are being semi-good (Nate keeps stealing my Sonic cherry limeade which is sorta pissing me off) but overall they're behaving. I did catch my vacuum cleaner on fire and that was unpleasant Ugh, and the smell, terrible. I had to Fabreeze the hell out of my living room. Looking at the bright side the sparks that jumped out were pretty and now I know what I want for Christmas. Anyway, I have made my first bar of pink soap with a pretty sunflower in the center. Its cooling and when its finished I'll post a picture.

11:00am - Ok, so the soap won't come out of the mold. Now I'm trying to figure out how the hellfire to pop the little suckers out.
Note to self...maybe a wee bit of oil around the mold would help next time. It took me 45mins to get it out. So, soap #1 down...about 8 more to make. Wish me luck!

My first bars of plumeria scented soap.

UPDATE: Ok, so I spent all this time making soap, lip gloss, and lotion. The plan was to take all of them with me when I went to visit my family for Christmas in Maryland. I didn't remember to take one...not one. Booo.

All That is Katie

So, I started to write my "Day 1" entry, but decided it made no sense if you had no background knowledge of me. Instead, I thought I'd write a little intro.
I'm Katie. I'm a scorpio, have blond hair, and in my early thirties. I've been married for eight years and have two little boys. I live on the east coast, close to the beach. I grew up with two amazing parents and a younger sister...and probably had the best childhood of anyone I know. Odd, I know...but honestly, until I was 18, I lived a fairly picture perfect life (my parents divorced when I was a senior in high school).
I've had a job since I was 14, but now I'm a homeschool mom. Life isn't all bad. Sure, we have money issues like everyone now, I want to smack my husband sometimes, and my kids make me want to rip out my blond locks...for the most part, its a good life. But, as much as I love my kids and husband...I need hobbies. I need adventure, or at the very least to try something new. Realistically, I can't run off and join a circus or travel the world. I'll have to find adventure in the small things.
I love to cook. I love crafts. So, I'm going to try new recipes, craft projects, and whatever else I can get myself into. Maybe you're thinking "yawn"...but who knows what whirlwind adventure I'll go on making my own lip balm.
I have no plans, no big ending, or specific direction. All I promise is to be honest and try my hardest not to burn my house down whilst using a hot glue gun.
